BJA Webinar - The Price of Justice: Rethinking the Consequences of Justice Fines and Fees Funding Opportunity

 This webinar will provide an overview of the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) “The Price of Justice: Rethinking the Consequences of Justice Fines and Fees” funding opportunity. Potential applicants will have an opportunity to learn about the background and key concepts of this funding opportunity, and the requirements of the solicitation. The goal of this program is to encourage and disseminate best practices for coordinated and appropriate justice systems responses due to justice-involved individuals’ inability to pay fines, fees, and related charges.

The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) will host an informational webinar on the FY 2016 National Initiatives: Officer Safety and Wellness Initiative—VALOR Program solicitation on Monday, March 7, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. ET. The purpose of this webinar is to share information about the solicitation with interested applicants. During the webinar, BJA staff will describe each funding category and will provide an opportunity for interested applicants to ask questions related to the solicitation.

BJA VALOR Officer Safety & Wellness Program Solicitation Webinar

This webinar will provide an overview of the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) FY 2016 National Initiatives: Officer Safety and Wellness Initiative—VALOR Program competitive solicitation. It will describe each funding category and will provide an opportunity for interested applicants to ask questions related to the solicitation of BJA staff who manage the VALOR program. The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) Law Enforcement Naloxone Toolkit was launched in October 2014 at the urging of former United States Attorney General Eric Holder. It provides law enforcement with the knowledge and the tools to reverse opioid overdoses in the field, which can reduce the time between when an overdose victim is discovered, and when they receive lifesaving assistance.

The Police Foundation recently launched a new essay series entitled On Policing. The purpose of this essay series is to capture the opinions and ideas of prominent voices in modern-day policing. The essays are also intended to stimulate debate about the state of policing today – and the many challenges law enforcement agencies and the community face – with an ultimate goal of promoting change based on lessons learned.

The Center for Evidence-Based Crime Policy (CEBCP) at George Mason University recently released “Building Trust with Communities,” a free training resource. CEBCP developed this resource in collaboration with the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy in order to help law enforcement identify positive ways to improve and/or restore trust among the communities they serve.

The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) recently released 41 new solicitations seeking applications from providers to work in a host of areas including probation reform and reducing intellectual property theft. See below for a list of the solicitations and the associated deadlines.

There is still time to register for the North Carolina (NC)/South Carolina (SC) Counterterrorism Conference! The NC/SC Counterterrorism Conference, co-hosted by the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, National Sheriffs’ Association & the Major County Sheriffs’ Association, will take place February 15-17, 2016 in the Charleston Area Convention Center. This year’s conference covers topics including counterterrorism preparation opportunities that are readily available to small and medium-sized communities.
