As part of our commitment to increase collaboration amongst BJA staff and BJA’s training and technical assistance (TTA) providers, BJA NTTAC will release a collaboration portal in the coming weeks. The collaboration portal is a web-based system that will allow BJA providers to view up-to-date information on TTA activity trends, search directories to identify relevant BJA criminal justice partners, and utilize a geographic information system to visually see the distribution of BJA NTTAC TTA activity across the United States.

The National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) will hold its 2014 Winter Conference from January 22-25 in Washington, DC. The conference provides networking and professional development opportunities for the NSA’s membership and includes exhibits from vendors offering services and trainings for sheriffs and law enforcement across the country. Keynote speakers for the conference’s two plenary sessions are John F. Sopko, Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, and James B. Comey, Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The Integrated Justice Information Systems (IJIS) Institute will host its three-day National Symposium, formerly known as the IJIS Institute Industry Briefing, from January 15-17 in Arlington, Va. The name change reflects the expansion of audience to include not only industry outside of IJIS membership, but government practitioners, educators, and non-profit organizations.
The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) recently released a policy brief, Medicaid and Financing Health Care for Individuals Involved with the Criminal Justice System, which provides an overview of federal Medicaid law as it relates to justice-involved populations. The policy brief also covers policy options available to improve continuity of coverage while ensuring federal funds are spent appropriately, provides examples of best practices from various states, and offers recommendations for state and local governments.
