Please join the National Criminal Justice Association (NCJA) webinar, Innovations in Substance Abuse Treatment and Abstinence Reinforcement. The webinar will take place on Tuesday, February 25 at 3 p.m. and will examine the research and the science behind two innovations in substance abuse treatment that can improve treatment effectiveness and enhance the number of people who receive services. Specifically, this webinar will look at CBT4CBT, a computer based cognitive behavioral intervention designed for substance treatment. It will also examine how contingency management, a behavioral intervention based on principles of reinforcement, can dramatically improve the ability of individuals to abstain from drug use.
Speakers for the webinar are Dr. Kathleen M. Carroll, Professor of Psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine, and Dr. Nancy Petry, Professor of Medicine at the University of Connecticut Health Center. Dr. Carroll’s research focuses on the development and evaluation of behavioral treatments and combinations of therapies and pharmacotherapies with an emphasis on improving the quality of clinical efficiency research in the addictions. Dr. Petry conducts research on the treatment of addictive disorders ranging from substance use to gambling disorders and she uses behavioral interventions to improve health behaviors such as medication adherence, weight loss, and exercising.
