"Tribal Healing to Wellness Courts: Key Components and Standards"

The Tribal Key Components of Healing to Wellness Courts form the foundation of all tribal drug courts. The Adult Drug Court Standards represent the latest research-based best practices for what works within the drug court setting. Applicants for Wellness Court federal funding are now being asked to abide by both documents. This webinar reviews both the key components and the standards, and discusses how they interrelate.

"Building a Collaborative Court with Other Jurisdictions to Treat Nonviolent Tribal Adult Offenders"

Chief Judge Abby Abinanti, Anthony Trombetti, and Jolanda Ingram-Obie of the Yurok Tribal Court presented an overview of the collaborative court that administers the Yurok Wellness Program. They explained that the wellness program began in 2009 with support from the Bureau of Justice Assistance. The Yurok Wellness Program provides outpatient and residential treatment to tribal members who have substance abuse problems. The program incorporates cultural awareness by encouraging and supporting tribal members, who are recovering or recovered, to attend community and cultural events.

Leadership, Accountability, Culture and Knowledge

This presentation by the National Fallen Firefighter Foundations examines the root causes of line-of-duty deaths and the role of Leadership, Accountability, Culture and Knowledge (LACK) as it influences the end result. Many fire departments across the United States "LACK the Right Stuff" to prevent them from being on a path to a line-of-duty death, with leadership, accountability, culture, and knowledge as the elements that need to be addressed and managed in those environments.

Creating Change in the Fire Service

This module is a roundtable discussion among five fire service leaders about how to create change in the fire service and lead a culture of safety. The roundtable discusses how to lead an organization where safety is a primary focus, including making safety a priority, handling resistance, extending responsible behavior modeling to "informal leaders" in the ranks, managing crew resources, fostering an environment of trust, and mitigating risk. The discussion was unscripted and guided by only a few questions posed to the group.

On February 13, 2019, the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), in partnership with the Vera Institute of Justice, presented the webinar "Serving Safely: Enhancing Policing for Persons with Mental Illnesses and Developmental Disabilities." This webinar provided participants with an overview of Serving Safely: The National Initiative to Enhance Policing for Persons with Mental Illnesses and Developmental Disabilities. The webinar described the types of assistance available, introduced the multidisciplinary project team responding to these requests, and highlighted new product development.

On November 28, 2018, the Bureau of Justice Assistance National Training and Technical Assistance Center hosted the "Changing Nature of Crime and Criminal Investigations" webinar in partnership with the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF). During the webinar, researchers from PERF discussed the impact of computers and other technologies on the nature of crime, as well as explained how technology changes investigations for law enforcement.

On July 19, 2018, the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), in partnership with the Milwaukee, Wisconsin Police Department (PD), presented the "Milwaukee, Wisconsin Police Department Networks of Criminals (NOC) Youth Offender Webinar." The webinar outlined Milwaukee PD’s Networks of Criminals approach – a novel, integrated analytic approach that integrates criminal history data, threat intelligence, and social network analysis to identify youth offenders who are most responsible for impacting the city’s motor vehicle and robbery trends.
