    The COPS Office Announces $14 Million in Grant Funds to Combat Methamphetamine and Heroin

    On Tuesday, March 29, the Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) announced that $14 million will be available in grant funding in order to address and reduce violent crime through programs focused on methamphetamine use and production, and the distribution of heroin and other opioids.

    The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) will host an informational webinar on the Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation (BCJI) Program FY 2016 Competitive Grant Announcement on Monday, April 4, 2016 at 3:30 p.m. ET. This webinar will provide an overview of the BCJI program – current model and training and technical assistance (TTA) program – as well as a walk-through of key changes in the FY 16 solicitation.     The Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) and the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services will host a three-day train-the-trainer course titled “First Responders Operating in Low-Light Conditions”. The course will be held Monday, June 6, 2016 through Wednesday, June 8, 2016 in Cleveland, VA and Friday, June 10, 2016 through Sunday, June 12, 2016 in Fairlawn, VA.
