    New Findings in the Smart Policing Initiative

    On May 10, 2017 from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. ET, the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) Smart Policing Initiative (SPI) will present a webinar on "New Findings in SPI." Since SPI began in 2009, over 50 SPI projects have been funded to test and evaluate evidence-based policing tactics and strategies. This webinar will feature four SPI sites - Boston, Massachusetts; Cambridge, Massachusetts; Los Angeles, California; and Rochester, New York - that recently completed their evaluation research.

    Research Partner Orientation Course_PSN FY16 Grantees

    Since competitive funding for Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) began in fiscal year (FY) 2012, the Michigan State University (MSU) School of Criminal Justice, as a PSN Training and Technical Assistance provider, has hosted four PSN Research Partner Orientation Courses (RPOC) for more than 120 people from 47 cities. The RPOC is a one- to two-day training attended by, at a minimum, the PSN Project Coordinator or primary point of contact and the Research Partner (RP).

    Winter 2017 Researcher Practitioner Fellows Academy

    To enhance the effectiveness of the Smart Suite programs and to bring more “science” to the field, the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) has partnered with a team from the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University (MSU) to build an academy that will researchers and practitioners work more effectively and efficiently on crime reduction strategies. The BJA/MSU Smart Suite Researcher Practitioner Fellows Academy (also known as the Fellows Academy) is a multi-day experience focusing on the importance of using science and data to:

    This webinar will provide information about the purpose, scope, and requirements of the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) and Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) Enhanced Collaborative Model Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force and will provide information to applicants about how to apply for funding.

    Community Responses to People in Crisis

    On November 2, 2016 from 2:00-3:30 p.m. eastern, the Smart Policing Initiative will present a webinar on "Community Responses to People in Crisis." This webinar will focus on the role of policing in assisting communities with addressing mental health concerns and will describe a range of response strategies for agencies to consider.     On September 30, 2016, the Center for Court Innovation, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance and the Quinnipiac University School of Law, will host "Justice Innovation in Times of Change: New Challenges, New Opportunities" at the Quinnipiac University School of Law, located at 370 Bassett Road in North Haven, CT.  

    Criminal Justice Technology Forecasting Group Meeting #4

    RAND plans to conduct the fourth in-person meeting of the Criminal Justice Technology Forecasting Group. This meeting will focus on addressing the top two topics for follow-on research from prior CJTFG meetings: identifying the most promising emerging technologies for sharing and using information, and determining top business cases for sharing information across the criminal justice enterprise.
