2013 Spring Essentials of Forensic Science for Legal Professionals

The West Virginia University Forensic Science Initiative, in collaboration with the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), is holding the 2013 Spring Essentials of Forensic Science for Legal Professionals program. The two-day program will provide the basic precepts of forensic science training and supply the tools to effectively apply this information for trial. Attendees will also be given information on evaluating the scientific rigor of expert testimony and the reliability of forensic evidence.

Innovations in Criminal Justice Summit II

The Association of Prosecuting Attorneys (APA), in partnership with the U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance and the Center for Court Innovation, will host the Innovations in Criminal Justice Summit II highlighting 10 innovative criminal justice practices from February 19-21, 2013 in Miami, FL. The summit will take place at The Hilton Miami Downtown. This summit is open to all criminal justice partners and those interested in learning about innovative practices which are creating a more effective and efficient system of justice.

ICAC-SIT Cell Phone Investigation, Collection, and Law Training (May 2013)

This three-day course provides crucial skills for investigators and first responders responsible for handling cellular and other mobile devices. The course provides effective techniques for properly obtaining, collecting, and storing digital media devices and evidence, as well as the knowledge to recognize different types and styles of mobile devices and portable media storage. Participants will learn techniques that assist in identifying, tracking, and apprehending the predators who use these devices as methods for exploiting victims.
