The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) Law Enforcement Naloxone Toolkit was launched in October 2014 at the urging of former United States Attorney General Eric Holder. It provides law enforcement with the knowledge and the tools to reverse opioid overdoses in the field, which can reduce the time between when an overdose victim is discovered, and when they receive lifesaving assistance.

The Police Foundation recently launched a new essay series entitled On Policing. The purpose of this essay series is to capture the opinions and ideas of prominent voices in modern-day policing. The essays are also intended to stimulate debate about the state of policing today – and the many challenges law enforcement agencies and the community face – with an ultimate goal of promoting change based on lessons learned.

Each year, at the National Forum on Criminal Justice, the National Criminal Justice Association (NCJA) honors five Outstanding Criminal Justice Programs (OCJP) for providing effective services to address crime-related issues in their communities.

The Center for Evidence-Based Crime Policy (CEBCP) at George Mason University recently released “Building Trust with Communities,” a free training resource. CEBCP developed this resource in collaboration with the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy in order to help law enforcement identify positive ways to improve and/or restore trust among the communities they serve.

The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) recently released 41 new solicitations seeking applications from providers to work in a host of areas including probation reform and reducing intellectual property theft. See below for a list of the solicitations and the associated deadlines.

On February 8, 2016, the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) National Training and Technical Assistance Center (NTTAC) released a request for proposal (RFP) seeking a provider to work with the New Hampshire Office of the Attorney General (Office of the AG). The Office of the AG is requesting assistance to develop data-driven pretrial justice reforms in the New Hampshire.

There is still time to register for the North Carolina (NC)/South Carolina (SC) Counterterrorism Conference! The NC/SC Counterterrorism Conference, co-hosted by the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, National Sheriffs’ Association & the Major County Sheriffs’ Association, will take place February 15-17, 2016 in the Charleston Area Convention Center. This year’s conference covers topics including counterterrorism preparation opportunities that are readily available to small and medium-sized communities.

On Tuesday, January 26, Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch spoke at the American Correctional Association Winter Conference on topics including reentry and solitary confinement. Attorney General Lynch outlined existing efforts to improve rehabilitation programs, including the Smart on Crime Initiative and the emphasis on rehabilitation programs to reduce recidivism and promote public safety.

On January 20, 2016, the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) National Training and Technical Assistance Center (NTTAC) released a request for proposal (RFP) seeking a provider to work with the Rhode Island Department of Corrections (DOC) and the Rhode Island Parole Board.
