Webinar: Ask the Expert Series: Preventing Vicarious Trauma

The webinar series and “Ask the Expert” sessions were developed under an Office on Violence Against Women grant focused on enhancing victim-centered approaches in community corrections. A victim/survivor-centered approach focuses on the concerns and needs of the victim/survivor to ensure the compassionate and sensitive delivery of services in a non-judgmental manner. These topics were selected based on findings of in-person and virtual listening sessions with professionals from around the country.

Webinar: Peer Recovery Support Services in Tribal Communities

Discuss an overview of peer recovery support services (PRSS) as part of a comprehensive program to address substance abuse within tribal communities. Explore specific models of PRSS implementation within tribal communities. Identify benefits of PRSS as well as common challenges and barriers. Examine important considerations related to building comprehensive intervention strategies to respond to alcohol and substance abuse issues in tribal communities including PRSS.

Previous webinars have laid the foundation regarding the impact of addiction on the brain, understanding mental health symptoms, and what tribal service providers and criminal justice professionals can do to support tribal members’ journeys out of addiction. Join this session for a facilitated discussion and open forum with subject matter experts who will answer your practical questions regarding working with individuals presenting with co-occurring disorder diagnoses (comorbidity).

State, Meet Federal: Prosecuting Law Enforcement Involved Sexual Violence

Join AEquitas for their webinar “State, Meet Federal: Prosecuting Law Enforcement Involved Sexual Violence” on June 11, 2021 at 2:00–3:00 p.m. ET. This webinar will focus on federal jurisdictions’ reach to prosecute sexual violence by those in all levels of government, including coordinating among federal and state authorities to enhance investigations based on evidence. Presenters will discuss the findings in PERF’s recently published report that examines ways in which law enforcement in partnership with other agencies can respond to human trafficking. Presenters will also highlight methods other jurisdictions have adopted to address the issue.
