In October, CSG Justice Center staff continued to monitor the progress of justice reinvestment legislation as the General Assembly worked towards passing a state budget. Ultimately a completed budget was passed at the end of the month on October 26th.

In October, CSG Justice Center staff focused on concluding work in Nebraska after the end of the active technical assistance period. CSG Justice Center staff worked on the comprehensive close-out memo to the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), and finance staff at the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) and the Administrative Office of Probation (AOP) worked to complete the final reports regarding subaward spend-down.

In October, North Dakota continued to make strong progress implementing Free Through Recovery (FTR), the community-based behavioral health program established with the state’s reinvestment funds. Deparment of Human Services (DHS) hired its first two FTR staff and began the hiring process for the remaining four positions outlined in North Dakota’s reinvestment appropriation.

In October, CSG Justice Center staff continued to work closely with agency leaders in implementing Montana’s justice reinvestment policies. Efforts this month focused on monitoring an October 1st effective date related to presentence investigations, training the new full-time professional parole board, and finalizing their implementation needs for the justice reinvestment subaward application.

In October, CSG Justice Center staff continued to engage agency leaders around implementation of Georgia’s justice reinvestment policies, with a focus on developing a judicial curriculum for Georgia’s judiciary to educate them on the benefits of Risk Need Responsivity (RNR) and how it can help them produce better criminal justice outcomes.

In October, CSG Justice Center staff continued to assist state and county leaders with their planning to operate four crisis stabilization units (CSUs); the implementation parole decision-making guidelines; and their preparations to monitor data on the implementation of up to 90 and 180-day sanctions for technical violations, which went into effect on October 1st.
