Letter of invitation signed by the Governor, Senate President, Speaker of the House, Chief Justice and Secretary of the Justice & Public Safety Cabinet
In July, CJI staff began to build relationships with the office of the Secretary of Public Safety, with the Department of Corrections, and with the Administrative Office of the Courts, collaborating on the drafting and signing of the letter of invitation, and drafting an MOU for KDOC’s prison data. This JRI effort will be led by the Secretary of Public Safety, John Tilley, who has already successfully facilitated the submission of the letter of invitation from state leadership requesting technical assistance. The CJI team began the system assessment and statutory analysis for the Kentucky system, while conducting a comprehensive review of the 2010-2011 JRI effort conducted by the Pew Charitable Trusts Public Safety Performance Project. The CJI staff also began to have discussions related to the composition of the Task Force.
In August, CJI staff continued to build relationships with practitioners from the DOC, AOC and the Judiciary, as well as other stakeholders in preparation for the policy development process and continued the system assessment and statutory analysis for the Kentucky system.
During the month of August, CJI finalized an MOU with KDOC and received five years of data to begin the data analysis process. The data team began cleaning and processing the data in preparation for the first “Drivers” presentation.
During the month of September, CJI cleaned and analyzed data from the Kentucky Department of Corrections in preparation for the first data drivers presentation. Staff also finalized an MOU with the Kentucky Administrative Office of the Courts and received five years of data to begin the data analysis process with a focus on pretrial and sentencing data.
