CPTED for the 21st Century: Understanding How the Physical, Social, and Economic Environment Influences Crime

Tuesday Dec 06, 2016 - 01:00pm to 02:00pm EST
Event Description:

Understanding how the built environment can impact crime is fundamental for place-based community safety efforts. Eliciting resident feedback on what changes can (and should) be made to the environment is equally important, as well as a sensitivity to a particular neighborhood’s culture, history, and connection to the broader community. Join the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) and their special guests for a discussion about Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) theory and principles, how they can be integrated into broader neighborhood safety planning, and an example from the field.

Practitioners from multiple sectors involved in community building and safety efforts will benefit from the discussion. Participants will have the opportunity to submit questions to the presenters during the webinar. There is no registration fee or cost to participate.

As the national training and technical assistance provider for the Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation (BCJI) program, LISC is supporting cross-sector partnerships in the 60 cities funded by BCJI to date as they seek to address the drivers of crime in persistent “hot spot” locations that are thwarting progress towards neighborhood revitalization.
