On September 13, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. ET, the Strategies for Policing Innovation (SPI) team will present a webinar on “Practical Approaches to Sustaining Innovative Policing Initiatives.” This online, interactive seminar will engage both the law enforcement community along with state and local government officials on how SPI sites are planning and sustaining new innovation. Participants will gain a better understanding of the importance of thinking and planning for program sustainment from the beginning of the project, as well as hear from SPI sites that are in various phases of project implementation and sustainment.

Dr. Mike White, Professor at Arizona State University’s School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, will set the context by discussing practices, principles, and challenges of sustaining policing initiatives and developing a sustainability plan.

Approaches to sustaining innovative policing initiatives will be provided by:

  • Christian Peterson, Crime Analyst, Portland, Oregon Police Bureau;
  • Captain Ryan Mills, East Patrol Division, Kansas City, Missouri Police Department; and
  • Captain Kari Sloan, Crime Intelligence Unit, Detroit, Michigan Police Department.
