Tuesday May 08, 2018 - 08:00am EDT to Thursday May 10, 2018 - 05:00pm EDT
Event Description:

The "Financial Crime (FC) 201 - Financial Records Investigative Skills" (FRIS) course builds on the concepts introduced in "FC 101 - Financial Investigations Practical Skills" and "FC 105 - Financial Records Examination and Analysis," introducing investigators and prosecutors to emerging issues in financial crime. Topics include understanding money laundering, analyzing large financial data sets, conducting effective interviews, and managing large amounts of financial evidence. This course consists of a mix of lecture, discussion, and hands-on exercises. Students conduct a mock investigation that includes interviews, data analysis, and the construction of an electronic case file.

Course topics:

  • Money laundering. Learn about the methods of laundering money, how to trace illegal funds, and emerging issues.
  • Financial data. Learn about spreadsheeting, Benford's law analysis, and creating an electronic case file.
  • Interview skills. Conduct mock interviews with detailed feedback from peers and instructors.
  • Hands-on experience. Work a mock financial case as part of an investigative team.

FRIS students should have basic proficiency with spreadsheeting applications such as Microsoft Excel. FRIS was formerly "Advanced Financial Investigations Practical Skills."
