Criminal Jurisdiction in Indian Country Seminar

Tuesday Jan 12, 2021 - 09:30am EST to Wednesday Jan 13, 2021 - 06:00pm EST
Event Description:

The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), Office of Justice Services (OJS) issues Special Law Enforcement Commissions (SLECs) to tribal, federal, state, and local full-time certified law enforcement officers who will serve without compensation from the Federal government.  This process allows BIA to obtain active assistance in the enforcement of federal criminal statutes and federal hunting and fishing regulations in Indian country.  One of the criteria for receiving a SLEC is completion of the Criminal Jurisdiction in Indian Country (CJIC) seminar and passage of an exam at the end of the class with a score of 70% or higher.  This CJIC offering is the DOJ/BIA approved course that is frequently taught by United States Attorneys’ office (USAO) personnel at the District level.  The expectation is that officers attending this class will file all necessary paperwork to obtain a SLEC from BIA with 60 days of completion of the class.

Participation is mandatory for all sessions for this webinar training event.  The webinar is scheduled for January 12-13, 2021, from 9:30-6:00 p.m. EST each day.  Please note that group viewing is not permitted.  To receive credit for participation, attendees must access this webinar training event individually on their computers/personal devices.  Attendees will not receive credit for participation if they access this meeting via audio only (dialing the WebEx Webinar phone number to hear but not view the webinar).

The examination (exam) for SLEC certification will be held online on January 14, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. EST.  Please note:  The exam will not be conducted via WebEx.  Instead, the Department of Justice will send instructions at a later date for accessing the online exam to all selected students via E-mail.  Please complete the registration form in its entirety.  Incomplete or incorrect information may delay the processing of your registration.  E-mail is our primary form of communicating with course attendees, therefore, it is vital that you submit a correct E-mail address.  Please confirm your E-mail address prior to clicking the “Submit” button on the registration screen.  You must register for the training and also log into the training using your legal first and last name.  Nicknames or alias will not be accepted.
