COURSE DESCRIPTION: The rapid spread of methamphetamine throughout the country, the covert nature of drug laboratories, and the hazardous chemicals involved pose unique challenges for law enforcement officials. This course will enable officers to recognize clandestine labs and their components as well as the hazards posed by methamphetamine use and production. This 7-hour online course provides basic methamphetamine awareness and safety education for front-line officers and first responders who may come in contact with clandestine laboratories. Participants learn to recognize precursors, equipment, and supplies used in the manufacture of methamphetamine and gain an understanding of the unique hazards of clandestine laboratories and receive critical information that will reduce their chances of injury. This course is a "how to" for first responding officers on: • Identifying and properly responding to clandestine drug labs • Determining methamphetamine production methods • Recognizing chemicals, equipment, and supplies used to make methamphetamine • Understanding how methamphetamine affects the body and behavior of the user • Avoiding hazards associated with methamphetamine production and chemical exposure. Methamphetamine Awareness, Identification, and Safety for First Responders Online includes numerous photographs depicting actual methamphetamine laboratories, audio narration by experienced law enforcement officers, and graphics designed to make key information easy to comprehend and recall.
