Basic Training for Street Gang Investigators In Indianapolis

About the Training:

This training is made possible through funding from the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice. The three-day class offers basic, entry-level training to sworn officers newly assigned to work with street gangs or those with limited experience and/or no formal training in street gang investigations. Course topics may include:

  • National Gang Overview
  • Developing Sources of Information
  • Regional Gang Overview
  • Prevention/Intervention and the Role of Law Enforcement
  • Gang Investigations
  • Interviewing Gang Members
  • Gang Suppression
  • Social Media Technology
  • Federal Sources and Tools

Registration:

There is no registration fee. Travel to Indianapolis, IN, as well as lodging, and per diem expenses are the responsibility of the attendee. Class size is limited, and it is recommended that you register early. For security reasons, only those individuals having a confirmed advance registration will be admitted to the training, and no registrations will be accepted onsite without prior approval. Law enforcement credentials will be required at check-in. Training check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. on June 21. The training schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on June 21–23.

Prerequisite Training:

The Street Gang Intelligence module of this basic training is available online and must be completed prior to the onsite training. Material from the online course will be referenced but NOT covered during the in-class portion of the training. This training is an 80-minute, self-paced course. Instructors:

Experts, many with national recognition in the subject area, will provide instruction. A regional overview of gangs will be provided by local gang authorities.
