The Center for Court Innovation, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance and Birmingham, Alabama Municipal Court, is hosting the 2018 Community Courts and Public Safety Conference in Birmingham, Alabama on Monday, May 7 through Wednesday, May 9, 2018. These international conferences for community court practitioners have been taking place every two years since 2010.
The conference will convene an international audience of practitioners and researchers to explore some of today’s most promising ideas and pressing issues in criminal justice. Topics will include effective practices to reduce recidivism; preventing violent crime through earlier “upstream” interventions; the latest science on addiction and treatment and promising practices in responding to the opioid crisis; improving justice system responses to mental health issues; tools and other support to foster mutual trust between law enforcement and community members and reduce violent crime; restorative justice techniques; lessons learned from effective planning of community courts; and much more.
