CSG Justice Center staff conducted regular meetings with Dennis Shcrantz to conduct research, compile examples, discuss, review, and development policy guidance for Reentry 2030 states
In January 2023, the CJI team was made aware that many policies from the previous year’s JRI effort would be re-introduced in the legislature in LB50, filed by the new chair of the Judiciary Committee, Senator Wayne. The General Counsel for the Judiciary Committee reached out to CJI, to gauge the CJI’s ability to provide education and data support to Senator Wayne for the JRI policies that would be reintroduced.
The request is prompted by the Supreme Court decision about concealed carry for weapons. Hawaii has always had very restricted gun laws, never concealed carry. The department is trying to figure out both on the political front and police department front how to get into compliance. Looking for assistance with processing current backlog of about 900 permits. Need to put everything together into a shared database. Is there a federal database that the requestor needs to be interfacing with? Are there federal rules?
This workshop provided information to Tribal Community Supervision and treatment court professionals on the services available through APPA. This workshop covered information contained on the Tribal Community Corrections Support Center website including a brief history of APPA work in Tribal Community Corrections, available training and technical assistance services, example program documents, and publications. The Tribal Grants Manager also introduced the Tribal Justice Probation System Review Guidebook, Risk-Need-Responsivity publication, and the Reentry Toolkit.
July -December 2022: TTA will include:
o Implementing training and corresponding resources related to challenging prior convictions as a basis for impeachment.
o Connecting WSOPD with Professors Anna Roberts and Julia Simon-Kerr who have written extensively on the limitations of the use of prior convictions as a basis for challenging witness credibility.
Report is largely complete and currently meeting to design training for Washington state's criminal legal system stakeholders.

Technical assistance needed for review of SAKI inventory certification.
Provided direct one on one support on the policy development process for an agency.
Ongoing engagement with Maryland statewide site.
2/1 update: Met with site to meet new site coordinator and introduce team to Michelle White at BJA. Discussed existing site successes/progress + challenges (mainly LE + community engagement). Briefly reviewed progress of each of 10 sites.
6/24 update: Subsequent to other 2022 MD engagement discussions regarding Baltimore City/consent decree, as well as ongoing engagement topics such as LEAD, TTA team brought in RTI's Meret Hofer to discuss LEAD. Otherwise normal summary of progress within site ensued.
