    Webinar - Understanding Girls and the Juvenile Justice System – A Review of Recent National Data

    Participants will learn about available data resources relating to victimization of and offending by girls, and the juvenile justice system’s response to law-violating behavior involving girls. The presenters will demonstrate information available from online data analysis and dissemination tools, with examples of the practical application and use of this information for policy and practice. Participants will have time to ask questions about the data resources and their own data needs and uses.

    Webinar - Effective Mechanisms for Violent Gang Task Force Management

    This webinar, sponsored by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, will focus on the importance of leveraging multijurisdictional criminal justice partnerships. It will also explore how to gain and sustain agency support of the task force’s mission. The discussion will include best practices for hiring and training task force personnel and how to identify the type of experts who should be sought when developing a violent gang task force. In addition, ways to identify major violent street gangs and how to target specific community needs in combating gang violence will be discussed.

    Webinar - Legal Issues in Today’s Jail: Use of Force

    The use of force is one of the leading areas of litigation in corrections. Understanding and articulating the legal requirements is critical in determining whether the force was objectively reasonable (pretrial inmates) or was applied in a good faith effort to maintain and restore order (convicted inmates). This webinar will review the leading Supreme Court decisions in the area of use of force, focusing on the report writing instrument used by both the deputy involved in the force and also as a tool in reviewing the use of force regardless of the inmate’s status.

    Webinar - Strategies for Reaching Overdose Survivors, Including Peer Support

    Communities across the country are employing innovative approaches to counter the rising number of overdose deaths. This webinar will introduce nontraditional responses to overdoses with a focus on the use of peer support specialists – individuals with lived experience who are themselves in recovery. Peer support specialists engage with survivors soon after their overdoses and remain an important resource to the individuals in navigating life in their communities, including facilitating access to treatment and other services.

The National Gang Center will also highlight ways in which jurisdictions can introduce and/or strengthen comprehensive approaches to develop strategic gang-reduction plans and/or to implement coordinated gang suppression strategies.
