    2018 National Forum on Criminal Justice

    Sponsored by the National Criminal Justice Association (NCJA) and the IJIS Institute (IJIS), the National Forum on Criminal Justice showcases programs, research, and technologies that help justice practitioners and decisionmakers in states, local communities, and tribal nations address pressing public safety issues.     The "Financial Crime (FC) 201 - Financial Records Investigative Skills" (FRIS) course builds on the concepts introduced in "FC 101 - Financial Investigations Practical Skills" and "FC 105 - Financial Records Examination and Analysis," introducing investigators and prosecutors to emerging issues in financial crime. Topics include understanding money laundering, analyzing large financial data sets, conducting effective interviews, and managing large amounts of financial evidence. This course consists of a mix of lecture, discussion, and hands-on exercises.

    Tor, Onion Routers, Deepnet, and Darknet: A Deep Dive for Criminal Investigators (Dec 2017)

    Many criminal investigators and analysts have heard of virtual private networks, proxies, and Tor. But, most would not feel comfortable conducting an investigation in which one of these tools was deployed. Similarly, both the Deepnet and Darknet are widely discussed but often not understood. At the same time, criminal investigators and analysts increasingly are required to conduct investigations and collect criminal intelligence information in these spaces or when these tools are being used.

    The Quattrone Center for the Fair Administration of Justice at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School is a nonpartisan, national research and policy hub producing and disseminating research designed to prevent errors in the criminal justice system. The Center takes an interdisciplinary, data-driven, “systems approach” to identifying and analyzing the most crucial problems in the justice system, and proposing solutions that improve its fairness for the benefit of society.
