On September 30, 2016, the Center for Court Innovation, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance and the Quinnipiac University School of Law, will host "Justice Innovation in Times of Change: New Challenges, New Opportunities" at the Quinnipiac University School of Law, located at 370 Bassett Road in North Haven, CT.  

Criminal Justice Technology Forecasting Group Meeting #4

RAND plans to conduct the fourth in-person meeting of the Criminal Justice Technology Forecasting Group. This meeting will focus on addressing the top two topics for follow-on research from prior CJTFG meetings: identifying the most promising emerging technologies for sharing and using information, and determining top business cases for sharing information across the criminal justice enterprise.

BJA NTTAC Webinar - "Tips for Reporting on Training Performance Metrics"

On Tuesday, June 14, from 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. ET, the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) National Training and Technical Assistance Center (NTTAC) will host the webinar "Tips for Reporting on Training Performance Metrics". The webinar will review the performance metrics associated with training engagements in the BJA Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) Reporting Portal, and offer tips for entering training activities and reporting training performance metrics thoroughly and accurately.

OJJDP NTTAC Webinar - Fostering Processes of Reconciliation

On June 1, 2016, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. ET, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Deliquency Prevention (OJJDP), in collaboration with the National Initiative for Building Community Trust and Justice, will present the webinar "Fostering Processes of Reconciliation." This webinar will describe the National Initiative's implementation efforts in its six pilot sites and give background on the concepts and practices of reconciliation.

BJA FY 2016 Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation Program: Site Based Solicitation Webinar

The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) will host an informational webinar on the Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation (BCJI) Program FY 2016 Competitive Grant Announcement on Monday, April 4, 2016 at 3:30 p.m. ET. This webinar will provide an overview of the BCJI program – current model and training and technical assistance (TTA) program – as well as a walk-through of key changes in the FY 16 solicitation. Participants will also have the opportunity to ask questions directly to BJA staff.

We are plagued with stories about police corruption, poor tactics, excessive use of force and as such public outcry for change is louder than ever. As a result, many agencies have attempted quick fixes (e.g., increased accountability, de-escalation classes, cameras) that have not solved the problem. Additionally, there continues to be a debate about if officers should be warrior or guardians and these conversations tend to create division and foster extreme response options that perpetuate officer imbalance.
