Whether implementing a regional or agencywide preventive crime gun strategy, the establishment of formal policies is a critical factor that must be addressed. These policies can be wide-ranging in scope, affecting entire local, regional, or national populations, and they can be narrow in scope, affecting only a single organization. For example, at least three states now have laws mandating that all police agencies in the state utilize the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) when investigating firearm-related crimes.

Effective Strategies to Investigate and Prosecute Labor Trafficking in the United States (Sept 2019)

This two-and-a-half-day training, sponsored by the International Association of Chiefs of Police and AEquitas: The Prosecutors’ Resource on Violence Against Women and funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), is designed to prepare participants to identify, investigate, and prosecute labor trafficking crimes.

This course will enable investigators and prosecutors to proactively identify victims of labor trafficking and effectively investigate and prosecute offenders using best practices and a trauma-centered approach.

Sometimes the most effective way to communicate data findings is through the creation of effective data visualizations. Data dashboards have become popular because they can be easily explained and interpreted by a variety of users. In some cases, data dashboards allow the end user to manipulate the data and isolate individual variables, allowing further exploration and knowledge building.

COAP Rural Responses to the Opioid Epidemic Solicitation Webinar

On behalf of the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), the Institute for Intergovernmental Research is releasing the Rural Responses to the Opioid Epidemic Grant solicitation. BJA is sponsoring this initiative in coordination with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the State Justice Institute (SJI). This is part of a series of demonstration projects funded under the Comprehensive Opioid Abuse Program. These demonstration projects are designed to build local capacity, foster cross-sector collaboration, and support innovation.
