    Regional Training #3: Strength-Based Approaches to Supervising High Risk Populations

    This training will provide tribal probation officers with insight on the unique needs of specialized offender populations including the mentally ill, alcohol and substance abusing offenders, and domestic violence offenders. Tips, tools, and techniques for effective case management of these populations will be explored, and participants will have the opportunity to practice skills through hands-on training, interactive scenarios, and role plays.

    WRAP: A Problem-Solving Therapy for RSAT Clients with Co-Occurring Disorders

    This 2:00 p.m. ET webinar will discuss an evidence-based program called Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP). WRAP provides an example of a Problem-Solving Therapy (PST) that can help RSAT clients organize lists of wellness tools that help them feel better in response to mental health difficulties; it can also be utilized to prevent the onset of such difficulties. WRAP assists in the creation, in advance, of directives to guide clinicians and other supporters in how best to intervene when clients can’t act appropriately on their own behalf.

    Pathways to Health Literacy and Health Care Utilization: A Critical Next Step for the Newly Eligible Pre-release Population

    This 2:00 p.m. ET webinar notes that justice-involved populations are starting to reap the benefits of expanded access to health coverage and care for both physical and behavioral health conditions. Recent studies confirm the advantages that health and justice policy makers have predicted since health reform began. Many states and jurisdictions have successfully implemented pathways to enrollment upon release for eligible individuals.

    According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, substance abuse is increasing in America. In a 2012 survey, approximately 23.9 million Americans reported using an illicit drug or abusing a prescription medication in the past month. This course was developed to meet the ever-increasing needs for professionals working in Indian Country to remain current on the most abused drugs in today's society. Participants will learn to recognize drug influence through a systematic approach using the 7-step drug recognition process.

Additionally, the webinar will discuss data collection, analysis, findings, and implications/uses of data, as well as practical/operational issues related to research (e.g., data use agreements, IRB, Memorandums of Understanding).
