Webinar - Sustainable Crime Gun Intelligence Strategies Require Policy-driven Tactics

Whether implementing a regional or agencywide preventive crime gun strategy, the establishment of formal policies is a critical factor that must be addressed. These policies can be wide-ranging in scope, affecting entire local, regional, or national populations, and they can be narrow in scope, affecting only a single organization. For example, at least three states now have laws mandating that all police agencies in the state utilize the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) when investigating firearm-related crimes.

Join the Justice Clearinghouse for the webinar “Social Network Analysis: An Innovative Tool to Maximize NIBIN Leads” on Thursday, June 7 from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. ET. During this webinar, participants will learn how social network analysis (SNA) can be applied to criminal justice data – including leads from the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) – to better understand violent crime.

Social Network Analysis: An Innovative Tool to Maximize NIBIN Leads

Crime and violence are highly socially connected. As criminal justice practitioners continue to learn about the small percent of the population responsible for the majority of violence, they have to use data analysis tools to focus resources (prevention, intervention, and enforcement) on the small world of people at high risk for being involved in violence, either as offenders or victims. This webinar will examine how social network analysis (SNA) can be applied to criminal justice data to better understand the small world of violence.

Justice Clearinghouse Webinar - Crime Gun Investigative Cycle

Since 1999, from across the country, approximately 3 million images of cartridge cases and bullets have been collected from crime scenes or test-fired guns have been uploaded into the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN), which allows for the capture and comparison of these ballistic images. When used to its fullest potential, NIBIN can generate timely investigative leads by linking crimes that may have otherwise gone unconnected.
