To address the national opioid crisis, communities across the country are using medication-assisted treatment (MAT), a practice which pairs Food and Drug Administration-approved medications with non-drug therapies such as counseling or cognitive behavioral therapy. Employing a “whole patient” approach, MAT is an effective and nationally recognized intervention to treat opioid abuse.

Attend a Webinar on How to Integrate Data from New and Emerging Law Enforcement Technology

Facial recognition, optical character recognition systems, drones, and mobile devices are all making their way into law enforcement agencies at a fast pace. Each of these systems is bringing new data sources, which enhance and can be integrated with existing data systems. This webinar will highlight these new and emerging technologies, as well as other technologies such as body-worn cameras and license plate recognition systems; the data they provide; and practical examples of integrating the data for investigations and crimefighting efforts.

Webinar - Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Outpatient Clinics: Using Behavioral Telehealth

The Bureau of Justice Assistance leadership, in collaboration with the Comprehensive Opioid Abuse Program team, will host a no-cost webinar on November 28, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. ET.

This session will highlight lessons learned from six medication-assisted treatment clinics in Florida by Operation PAR, Inc., which instituted the use of videoconferencing to enhance and expand service delivery. Videoconferencing refers to providing assessment, treatment, and recovery services online.

Substance Use, Trauma and Domestic Violence: Critical Issues, Promising Approaches

Substance use is a challenging issue facing domestic violence survivors and the programs that serve them. The national opioid epidemic has intensified the problem. But progress is being made. We are identifying promising approaches and building community capacity to address the complex needs of survivors. Recognition of the impact of trauma on survivors’ use of substances as well as the role of substance use-related coercion by perpetrators has led to more integrated approaches.

During this webinar, participants will learn how two disability benefits programs from the Social Security Administration – Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) – can provide income and health benefits to certain reentry populations.
