Studies show 78 percent of adolescents who have suffered from homelessness have also had at least one encounter with law enforcement. Of these young adults, 44 percent have found themselves in a jail or detention center.

    Expert Q&A: Innovative Practices for Family Justice Centers

    Family Justice Centers provide a “one-stop shop” for victims of family violence (intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and elder abuse). These co-located, multidisciplinary service centers reduce the number of places a victim must go to receive services following the crime. Services include, but are not limited to, assistance with protective orders, legal services, medical, counseling, safety planning, and more. This session will allow the audience to inquire about innovative practices within the Family Justice Center model.

    The Office of Justice Programs recently launched an upgraded America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response (AMBER) Alert Website. It features a description of the AMBER Alert in Indian Country Initiative, which was developed to assist tribal communities in integrating their AMBER alert systems with state and regional systems. The updated site also offers new publications, statistics, points of contact, and other valuable resources.

    Read the Newly Released Problem-Oriented Policing Guide on Addressing Crime Hot Spots

    The Strategies for Policing Innovation (SPI) initiative released a problem-oriented policing (POP) guide titled “Understanding and Responding to Crime and Disorder Hot Spots.” SPI collaborated with the Center for Problem-Oriented Policing at Arizona University with support from the Bureau of Justice Assistance to develop this guide.

    The guide discusses the following:
