Naloxone (Narcan) Administration for Peace Officers and EMTs: Training and Information

Event Description: 

The instructors will provide the attendees current information on the opioid problem, opioid medications and administration, and discuss the important role law enforcement and EMT’s have in combating overdose deaths. Then they will give an overview of Naloxone. Specifically, they will provide attendees with how it works, scenarios when it should be administered, discuss when it should NOT be used, and also cover some of the side effects associated with it. They will wrap up the session with a discussion about State Legislation and recommendations for peace officers on what type of information they should be documenting after Naloxone is administered.

Dr. Gail Bradley, an Emergency Room Physician, Fire Department Medical Director, and is on the Arizona State committee creating the Naloxone guidelines; 
Dr. Garth Gemar who is the Glendale Medical Director; and 
Gary Benson who is the Glendale Medical Services Deputy Chief
