Event Description: 

This 24 hour course was designed for law enforcement officers who are patrolling major highways, city streets in all parts of their communities, including all rural areas. This course has been designed to address the issues, in which they are commonly encountered by the officer during a criminal interdiction encounter. This course will cover the basic legal aspects concerning search and seizure, the primary types of legal searches, including traffic stops and in-depth vehicle search (including rental cars, motor homes, trailers and trucks) segment addressing the common concealment methods and the detection practices. Search techniques are taught for all areas of these conveyances. This course will enhance the students thoughts on the methods suspects utilize to defeat law enforcement. All students will gain an over-all perspective of contraband concealment. Students will learn pre-search objectives, officer safety, during vehicle searches. Students will gain an understanding of the common pitfalls associated with vehicle contraband searches. Students are taught to locate after-market hidden compartments as well as contraband concealed in container trucks and to detect electronically hidden compartments. Course Objectives: •Explain the criminal interdiction concept •Explain basic legal aspects concerning search and seizure •Apply effective search and seizure methods •Discuss methods suspects use to defeat law enforcement •Examine a comprehensive perspective of contraband concealment
