On December 10th from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time, the Smart Policing Initiative (SPI) presented a webinar titled " The Impact of Body Worn Cameras: The Phoenix SPI. " This webinar was co-presented by Commander Michael Kurtenbach of the Phoenix Police Department and Dr. Charles Katz from Arizona State University (ASU). Phoenix's SPI intervention involved the deployment of body worn cameras, and was developed in response to an uptick in crime and citizen complaints in 2010.

The Smart Policing Initiative presented a webinar titled "Peer-to-Peer Roundtable: Sustainability" on October 15, 2014 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time. This webinar was facilitated by Dr. Michael White, SPI Subject Matter Expert and Arizona State University professor, and included presentations from the Lowell, MA; Pullman, WA; and Indio, CA SPI sites. The focus of the webinar was on discussion of sustainability of Smart Policing principles and practices, with specific discussions about challenges and recommended practices related to sustainability.

The Smart Policing Initiative presented webinar titled "The Importance of the Chief Executive in Smart Policing" on September 24, 2014 from 3:00 to 4:30pm Eastern Time. Edward F. Davis, former Boston Police Commissioner, facilitated this webinar. This webinar explored the central role that the police chief plays in all facets of Smart Policing; the importance of Smart Policing in furthering organizational learning; and the essential role of researchers in supporting those activities.

The Smart Policing Initiative presented a webinar on "Criminology 101" on September 3, 2014 from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm Eastern Time. Dr. Scott Decker, SPI Subject Matter Expert and Foundation Professor at the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Arizona State University facilitated this webinar. The past two decades have produced an abundance of "facts" about crime. These facts have been verified in multiple research settings and now can be regarded as solid evidence about crime that can be used to build effective criminal justice and police policy.

During the July – December 2014 reporting period, IIR IT staff continued to develop and modify assessment reports per DHS requirements. IIR programmatic staff disseminated individualized correspondence for accessing the assessment tool and supporting resources to all centers. IIR staff created a calendar for team calls with centers to validate assessment results and coordinated/facilitated conference calls with all 78 centers to schedule their validation call and all calls were completed in mid-October.

The National Gang Center (NGC) has continued to plan for the development of a new law enforcement gang course. A focus group was convened to build a gang awareness and officer safety course. The Gang Awareness and Officer Safety focus group was held on October 7–8, 2014, in Scottsdale, Arizona. This group was organized in close coordination with BJA.
