In the previous grant period, NCIA learned that the majority of CI programs were not tracking post-release employment and no CI programs were tracking post-release employment for PIECP offenders separately from their other (traditional) CI offenders. NCIA, primarily through its PIECP Technical Consultant, is tasked with updating the PIECP Growth summary document that was submitted to BJA in 2013. Work was begun on formulating the follow up questions to examine the strategies and processes of the most successful PIECP programs in order to share that with other certificate holders. Interviews will be conducted in the upcoming reporting period and the report will be drafted. The update of PIECP activity itself will be completed once the fourth quarter 2014 statistical reports have been submitted by all certificate holders.

The Criminal Court Assessment Tool (CCAT) is a new, brief assessment tool that identifies an offender’s risk level prior to case disposition, while also screening for key needs which, if treated, would be expected to lower the risk of reoffending. The Center for Court Innovation developed this tool to fill a gap in existing risk-needs assessment tools, which have primarily been designed to be implemented post-sentencing and with serious offenders.
