Training Development

The Detroit, Michigan Police Department (PD) requests BJA NTTAC support through the purchase of 16 kits to facilitate an upcoming the "Nobility of Policing” train-the-trainer course for their sworn and non-sworn personnel. The event date is to be determined by Detroit PD and the provider, FranklinCovey, and the train-the-trainer kits are a necessary component to successfully deliver this training course.

Restoration of Hope requested information and training materials for reentry programs. BJA NTTAC referred this request to the National Reentry Resource Center.

The University of Nevada-Reno requested assistance from BJA NTTAC to purchase 100 Blue Courage participant kits for the training of regional justice agency agencies in the Blue Courage training curriculum. BJA NTTAC denied this request.

The Louisville, Kentucky Police Department requested training for its officers on the legal aspects and practical application of identifying armed individuals. The requestor withdrew the request.

The Jefferson County, Alabama Sheriff's Office requested a system assessment. The requestor withdrew the request.

The Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) requested the Master Resilience Training train-the-trainer curriculum, to be delivered by the Positive Psychology Center at the University of Pennsylvania, for 40-60 agency personnel. This request was referred to the Institute for Intergovernmental Research for fulfillment under the VALOR Program.

We are seeking assistance with the purchase of course materials - 100 participant kits @ $89.50 per kit for a total request value of $8,950.00. Our first goal is to be able to receive enough money for 100 kits (each kit costs $89.50) with assistance from BJA. Our second goal is to get enough officers trained in Blue Courage so that it becomes a part of the Nevada POST standards for law enforcement officers.

The training requested specifically targets the legal aspects and practical application of identifying armed individuals. The training would be beneficial in tackling the rise in gun and violent crimes in the city of Louisville.

Request assistance in evaluating our current system and to look at making system alterations, for a reduction in FTA's that are generated for individuals that are released from the Jefferson County, AL Jail.
1. Improved options to provide information to the individuals bonding out of jail.
2. Options to update technology to alert individuals to court dates.
3. Looking at other ways to reduce FTA's --Pre-diversion options.

NTTAC referred the requestor to the National Gang Center who will reach out to discuss the request in more detail.
