We are seeking assistance with the purchase of course materials - 100 participant kits @ $89.50 per kit for a total request value of $8,950.00. Our first goal is to be able to receive enough money for 100 kits (each kit costs $89.50) with assistance from BJA. Our second goal is to get enough officers trained in Blue Courage so that it becomes a part of the Nevada POST standards for law enforcement officers. I will perceive this as being successful when there are enough officers trained and practicing the Blue Courage principles that other officers will see the benefit and want to attend the training. It will be successful when officers are seeking out this training for its health and well-being benefits. It will be a success when the overall morale of officers has improved. The target audience is law enforcement personnel in northern Nevada. The state is large and the population in the north is widespread. There are numerous agencies in small towns and rural communities across the top half of the state, with the Reno, Sparks, Washoe County area being the most populous. The Washoe County area agencies are very good at sharing resources and working together for the good of all, but the outlying agencies don't have the same opportunities for the type of training Blue Courage can provide. Our goal is to make it available to those agencies as well.
University Police Services is partnering with professionals of other local agencies to provide Blue Courage training to law enforcement personnel Throughout northern Nevada. Blue Courage is a transformational two-day leadership development workshop designed for all levels of the organization. This educational process is designed to touch hearts, awaken minds and ignite spirits through dynamic presentations and learning processes. There are modules that cover self-improvement, increased engagement, stress-management, developing resilience, igniting culture change, combatting cynicism, while improving overall health and well-being. We have found this training to be well received and in high demand. It is difficult to keep up with the demand for course supplies.
