The Flint, Michigan Police Department (PD), as part of the Flint Violence Reduction Network (VRN) site, requested a comprehensive assessment of gang issues in the city of Flint. Dr. Charles Katz and Dr. Andrew Fox were selected as providers to fulfill this request. During Phase II of this engagement, the providers conducted a working group session with 10 - 20 gang experts from Flint PD and across the city of Flint. The providers developed a gang database and gang member information card, and conducted a social network analysis.

The West Virginia Division of Corrections (DOC) requested technical assistance to address a range of current challenges, including a rising prison population, limited resources, staffing shortages, facilities considerations, institutional gang and drug activity, and inmate-on-inmate violence. BJA NTTAC is currently still identifying potential TA providers to fulfill this request, which will be transferred to the Option Year 1 (OY1) contract.

George Mason University requested funding to develop an RNR Simulation Tool. BJA NTTAC closed the request on August 30, 2017. BJA NTTAC will re-open the request on August 31, 2017 under the Option Year 1 contract.

The College Park City-University Partnership, consisting of three municipalities and the University of Maryland, requested a Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) analysis of a popular bicycle/pedestrian trail. The Virginia Center for Policing Innovation (VCPI) was selected to fulfill the request and provided a complete CPTED analysis of the Rhode Island Avenue Trolley Trail in Spring 2017. VCPI delivered the report to the College Park City-University Partnership in June 2017, and presented the results in-person in College Park, Maryland in July 2017.

The Chicago, Illinois Police Department (PD) requested an assessment of its crime-fighting strategies and tactics. During Phase III, Dr. Malinowski and his team continued assessment efforts, which included examining the incident command system's application to crime-fighting, rebooting the CompStat process, and developing an effective crime-fighting plan. Dr. Malinowski delivered the final report to Chicago PD in December 2016.

The Chicago, Illinois Police Department (PD) requested an assessment of its crime-fighting strategies and tactics. Dr. Malinowski and his team of subject matter experts were selected as the providers. During Phase II, the team assessed Chicago PD's crime-fighting efforts, which included existing crime-fighting strategies, the CompStat process, and crime analysis efforts, and to develop further recommendations for improving Chicago PD's overall crime-fighting strategy. Dr. Malinowski delivered the final report to Chicago PD in November 2016.

The Flint, Michigan Police Department (PD), as part of the Flint Violence Reduction Network (VRN) site, requested an assessment of their evidence and property room policies and procedures and an evaluation of their property and evidence facilities. Evidence Control Systems, Inc. (ECS) was selected as the provider. ECS conducted a site visit to assess the Flint PD’s evidence and property room procedures and facilities. ECS delivered the final report to Flint PD in July 2017.
