The Detroit, Michigan Police Department, as part of the Detroit Violence Reduction Network (VRN) site, requested assistance to facilitate a crime analysis summit to educate crime analysts, executives, command staff, managers, and supervisors in Detroit and surrounding areas on crime analysis, social media analysis, social network analysis, geographic information systems, and investigative analysis. Julie Wartell and Dr. Ed McGarrell were selected as the providers. Ms. Wartell and Dr. McGarrell facilitated a two-day crime analysis summit on November 29 - 30, 2016 and developed a crime analysis coordinating strategy for addressing violent crime in Detroit. Ms. Wartell and Dr. McGarrell delivered the final report to the Detroit VRN site in December 2016.
