Join the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) Training and Technical Assistance Center (TTAC) for an expert question-and-answer discussion on “Victim-Centered Approaches to Family Violence” on Wednesday, September 27 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. ET. During this online discussion, presenters will explore empathy, transdisciplinary collaboration, and the art of presence in a collaborative response to family violence. Participants will also learn how to shift from a problem-oriented focus to supporting the well-being of those experiencing family violence.
Victim-centered approaches involve putting the person seeking services at the center of the work, starting with engagement and the recognition that they are whole people, not just victims or survivors. These approaches require attention, openness, connection, and a capacity to engage authentically with the person seeking assistance. Victim-centered approaches also require examining how systems may inadvertently create barriers to engagement and erode well-being.
Presenters in this discussion include Maureen Lowell, who has worked in the field of family violence since 1985, and Anna Melbin, who has 20 years of experience working with nonprofit organizations and on state and federal policy issues.
