Watch the “Analyzing Your Violent Crime Problem” Webinar Hosted by the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University
The School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University, in coordination with the Bureau of Justice Assistance, hosted the webinar “Analyzing Your Violent Crime Problem” on September 23, 2015. The webinar was developed to support effective problem-solving analysis and is relevant to any violent crime reduction initiative. It also supports jurisdictions participating in the Violence Reduction Assessment Tool (VRAT).
Topics included how to define the problem to prepare for the analysis; what sources and types of data can be used; using the appropriate analytic approach (people, places, networks, contexts); developing “real-time” products and resources for strategic decisionmaking; and connecting problems to prevention options.
The webinar was presented by Dr. Edmund McGarrell, a professor in the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University and Director of the Michigan Statistical Analysis Center, and Ms. Julie Wartell, an independent advisor on public safety issues relating to crime analysis, problem solving, and justice systems.
