Join the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) on Tuesday, August 7 to recognize this year’s National Night Out. Founded by Executive Director Matt Peskin in 1981, NATW serves as a platform to connect community watch groups with resources and assets to stay informed, involved, and motivated. In support of the organization’s overall mission, NATW introduced National Night Out in August 1984 as a community-building campaign to promote police-community partnerships and create safer neighborhoods.
Since its introduction, National Night Out has grown from front porch vigils to neighborhood celebrations that include block parties, festivals, parades, and other community events with safety demonstrations, youth events, exhibits, visits from emergency personnel, and more. Today, more than 38 million participants across 16,000 communities from all 50 states, as well as U.S. territories and military bases worldwide, take part in this annual campaign.
