Watch a Training Video on Fentanyl Safety Recommendations for First Responders

The Bureau of Justice Assistance recently released the video, Fentanyl: The Real Deal, which is a companion training to the  released in November 2017. Produced by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the video provides first responders with essential recommendations, tips, and tools to use when the presence of fentanyl is suspected, when exposure occurs, and when individuals exhibit signs of opioid intoxication.

Informed by expertise from the medical, public health, law enforcement, fire/emergency medical services, and occupational safety and health disciplines, and developed in collaboration with 24 other stakeholder associations and organizations, these science-based recommendations include:

  • Actions first responders can take to protect themselves from exposure;
  • Actions first responders can take when exposure occurs; and
  • Actions first responders can take when they or their partners exhibit signs of intoxication.
