Learn About a Reentry Model for People with Mental Illness or Co-occurring Substance Use Disorders

Join the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) for the webinar “SOAR: A Reentry Tool for Individuals Involved in the Criminal Justice System” on Wednesday, October 24 from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. ET. During this webinar, participants will learn how two disability benefits programs from the Social Security Administration – Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) – can provide income and health benefits to certain reentry populations. Additionally, presenters will review how to implement the SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery (SOAR) model in county jail and state correctional systems.

The webinar will discuss how the SSI/SSDI programs support reentry for previously incarcerated individuals with mental illness, medical impairment, and/or co-occurring substance use disorders. Presenters will also outline key strategies and best practices for SOAR implementation in criminal justice settings as a means of increasing housing stability and promoting post-release success. This webinar will be presented by the SAMHSA SOAR Technical Assistance Center in partnership with the SAMHSA Gather, Assess, Integrate, Network, and Stimulate Center.
