Join the CSG Justice Center Webinar: Police-Mental Health Collaboration Programs, a Different Way of Policing
The Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center, with support from the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), is hosting the webinar “Police-Mental Health Collaboration Programs, a different Way of Policing” on Wednesday, September 28 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. ET. The purpose of this webinar is to provide an overview of police-mental health collaboration (PMHC) programs—collaborative partnerships among law enforcement agencies, mental health providers, and other community-based entities. It will also feature two Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program (JMHCP) grantees whose programs effectively respond to people with mental illnesses.
The panelists for this webinar are:
- Sam Myers, Corporal, San Marcos (TX) Police Department
- Michael Yarbrough, Sergeant, El Dorado County (CA) Sheriff’s Office
- Nicola Smith-Kea, Senior Policy Analyst, CSG Justice Center (Moderator)
Corporal Myers will discuss the San Marcos Mental Health Officer (MHO) Program, which uses a mental health officer as the liaison between law enforcement, people in need of mental health services, and the rest of the community. Sergeant Yarbrough will share information on the El Dorado County’s Crisis Intervention Team Management Model.
