Please join the Association of Prosecuting Attorneys (APA) for their September Final Fridays webinar, Using Data to Advance Equity, Accountability and Professionalism, which will be held on Friday, September 27, from 3 – 4 p.m. EST. This webinar will be led by Whitney Tymas, Director of Prosecution and Racial Justice Programs (PRJ) at the Vera Institute of Justice.
Ms. Tymas will describe the groundbreaking initiative that partners researchers with prosecutors in varied jurisdictions across the country to track decisionmaking at critical stages of criminal cases. The PRJ works with prosecutors to identify racial disparity in aggregate decisionmaking and provides prosecutors the knowledge and support they need to understand how discretion is being applied in their offices, identify factors that may influence or explain disparate outcomes, and institute corrective courses of action where suspicions of adverse racial impacts are confirmed. Attendees will learn how statistical analysis and aggregate thinking can be applied to identify patterns of disparity, and how internal protocols can promote racial fairness and justice.
