Join the Bureau of Justice Assistance and the Comprehensive Opioid Abuse Program team for the “Moms Do Care” webinar on Wednesday, February 20 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. ET. During the webinar, participants will learn about the Massachusetts Moms Do Care Project (MDCP), an initiative that provides unique approaches to supporting pregnant and parenting women who have a substance abuse disorder. Established in 2015, the MDCP aims to expand access to medication-assisted treatment for opioid abuse. The MDCP was an initial response to rising rates of pregnant women with opioid use disorders and reports of neonatal abstinence syndrome in the state of Massachusetts.
Participants will learn about the core program components of the MDCP, which include peer-led recovery coaching, care navigation, wellness planning, system change and capacity-building initiatives, and program sustainability through the development of regional, integrated, and ongoing provider care collaborative groups.
Webinar presenters will include:
- Laura Sternberger, Manager, MDCP, and Director, Pregnant and Postpartum Women’s Services, the Institute for Health and Recovery at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Bureau of Substance Addiction Services;
- Amy Sorensen-Alawad, Program Director and Grants Management Specialist, Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Bureau of Substance Addiction Services; and
- Amy Salomon, Senior Fellow, Advocates for Human Potential, Inc., Center for Research and Evaluation.
