Attend the Vera Institute of Justice’s Neil A. Weiner Research Speaker Series Event for a Discussion on Mass Incarceration

Join the Vera Institute of Justice for the event “Place and Punishment in an Era of Mass Incarceration” on Friday, February 24 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. ET. During this event, Professor Jessica T. Simes, an assistant professor of sociology at Boston University, will discuss mass incarceration as it relates to historical trends around racial segregation, poverty, crime, and patterns of social control. Professor Simes will examine not only the features of mass incarceration in large, metropolitan areas, but also how it occurs and shapes isolated urban and suburban areas, based on a dataset of prison admissions in Massachusetts from 1973 to 2014.

This event is part of the Vera Institute of Justice’s Neil A. Weiner Research Speaker Series. Although registration to attend the event in-person has ended, the talk will also be livestreamed for interested participants.
