Apply to Develop Trauma-informed Training Capacity Through a SAMHSA GAINS Center Train-the-Trainer Opportunity

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) Gather, Access, Integrate, Network, and Stimulate (GAINS) Center for Behavioral Health and Justice Transformation is seeking applications from communities interested in developing their capacity to provide trauma-informed training. Selected communities will participate in a train-the-trainer (TTT) event that will instruct local trainers on how to deliver the GAINS Center’s How Being Trauma-Informed Improves Criminal Justice System Responses training program. The primary goals of this training program are to:

  1. Increase participants’ understanding of trauma,
  2. Create an awareness of the behavioral impact of trauma, and
  3. Develop trauma-informed responses.

Target audiences for the TTT event are community-based, criminal justice system professionals, including community corrections officers (probation, parole, and pre-trial services); court personnel; law enforcement officers (including local crisis intervention training instructors); and human services providers who work with justice-involved adult populations. Applicants must specifically address and demonstrate their readiness to implement trauma-informed principles and practices within their organization, community, region, or state. Applications are due November 3, 2017.
