Capital Litigation Initiative: Crime Scene to Courtroom Forensics Training

The National Clearinghouse for Science, Technology and Law (NCSTL) at Stetson University College of Law is offering a 2-day training Capital Litigation Initiative: Crime Scene to Courtroom Forensics Training under BJA Grant # 2015-CP-BX-K006.

The training will be held at the Sirata Beach Resort and Conference Center in St. Pete Beach, FL on July 11 -12, 2016.

This training is intended for defense attorneys and prosecutors who actively try capital cases. The two-day training will focus on issues in forensic science included, but not limited to:

  • Forensic Science 101
  • Forensic Report Wording and Statistics
  • Digital Forensic Technologies
  • Challenging Evidence – methodologies and development of optimal strategies
  • Forensic Science Research
  • Forensics after the NAS report
  • Discovery Material
  • Expert Witness
  • Preparing for Trial

All allowable expenses for attendance, including travel, lodging, transport to/from airport on site and per diem, will be covered under the BJA grant for attendees.

There are a limited number of slots for the training session and every effort will be made to incorporate as many states as possible, with priority given to practitioners who actively handle death penalty cases. Every effort will be made to ensure equal distribution between all qualifying states.Submitting an on-line application does not ensure a spot at the training session.
