The Milwaukee Local JRI site requested assistance in refreshing their sequential intercepts model, identifying a mental health screening tool, and updating their behavioral matrix to include mental health. BJA NTTAC referred the request to the Council of State Governments.
The BYOC training programs provide intensive training to capital defense teams using the proven "Bring-Your-Own-Case" method. Capital defense is an extraordinarily demanding and complex practice that, when done poorly, represents one of the greatest continuing threats to the right to counsel in today’s criminal justice system. A capital case consists not of one trial, but two - a guilt phase and a penalty phase. Because of the irrevocability of capital punishment, capital cases constitutionally demand unique levels of investigation and preparation by defense counsel.
On March 4th Deb Lolai, staff attorney at The Bronx Defenders spoke on a panel regarding the need for holistic advocacy when representing LGBT youth in both juvenile and criminal courts.
On February 29, 2016 Family Defense Practice Social Workers from The Bronx Defenders trained Social Workers practicing in the Family Courts in Suffolk County, New York. The emphasis of the training was on the need for holistic practice the representing parents in Family Court Article 10 proceedings.
