SMEs John Skaggs and John Colello conducted a homicide investigations assessment for Detroit, MI.
CNA planned, coordinated, and conducted the SPI Phase VII Inaugural Meeting June 15-16, 2016 in Phoenix, AZ. This meeting was co-hosted by Arizona State University, and brought together six of the newest SPI sites, including the Phoenix, AZ Police Department, Shoreline, WA Police Department, Pinellas County, FL Sheriff's Office, Miami Beach, FL Police Department, Milwaukee, WI Police Department, and Roanoke County, VA Police Department.
SMEs and CNA conducted initial on-site visits to the Phase VII sites. Visits were made to Milwaukee, Shoreline, Roanoke, Pinellas, Miami Beach, and Phoenix. SPI site visits included a series of meetings and discussions aimed at attaining a thorough update and briefing on the status and progress a grantee's initiative. CNA SMEs conducted visits towards the beginning of an SPI site's project, so that they could establish an effective working and collaborative relationship.
Chip Coldren conducted a site visit to Columbia SPI to help them revise their requested change in project scope and evaluation design. CNA compiled site visit summary notes following the visit, as well as worked with BJA to recommended project changes and TTA opportunities around crime analysis and focused deterrence.
CNA coordinated SMEs Dr. Andrew Fox and Major Joseph McHale to provide social network analysis training to Los Angeles Police Department on July 12, 2017.
CNA coordinated and participated in two SPI panels and one roundtable at the 2016 ACJS Meeting in Denver, CO on March 29 to April 2, 2016.
CNA coordinated with BJA and SPI sites the submission of two SPI panels and one roundtable for the November 2016 ASC Meeting.
On March 9, 2016, from 2:00-3:30 pm eastern, the Smart Policing Initiative presented a webinar on "Crime Control through Collective Efficacy and Social Cohesion." This webinar was presented by Craig D. Uchida and Shellie E. Solomon of Justice & Security Strategies, Inc. The idea of the "community" is critical to community oriented policing, yet many community policing efforts undervalue the role that residents play in crime control.
Reducing Officer Injuries Final Report was disseminated via hard copy and electronically via project webpage.
IACP staff will maintain project webpage and populate with current resources and timely and relevant news articles.
