In 1995, C.O.P.S. began offering the highly-acclaimed trainings called “Traumas of Law Enforcement” to prepare law enforcement agencies to provide counseling and peer support following line-of-duty deaths and other law enforcement tragedies such as disability and suicide. An extensive curriculum on death notification, handling a line-of-duty death, law enforcement suicide, the emotionally affected officer, and the disabled officer are all taught at these trainings. In 2019, we began making peer support and counseling referrals available to the officers attending the training.

Chat rooms, discussion forums, and VoIP, instant messaging, and social media platforms have been used to facilitate cyber-enabled fraud, such as the sale of stolen data, skimming, and BEC scams. This webinar introduces participants to cyber-enabled fraud, types of cyber-enabled fraud, and the platforms used in the commission of these types of cybercrime.

In recent years, there has been greater awareness that developmental disabilities may go undetected in individuals who come into contact with the criminal justice system. As first responders, law enforcement officers may encounter people with developmental disabilities or co-occurring conditions (mental health conditions and developmental disabilities) and as such have an opportunity to set the stage for effective interactions with the justice system for this population.

Policy Research Associates, in collaboration with partners, led the coordination and implementation of strategic planning for crisis response with the Shreveport, Louisiana Police Department (SPD). The strategic planning session occurred across two virtual sessions, during which the SPD and their criminal justice and behavioral health/disability service provider partners participated in a modified Sequential Intercept Model Mapping (intercepts 0-2) to identify their current system for crisis response and any gaps/barriers to that system that might be improved upon.
