Provided direct one on one support on the policy development process for an agency.
Through this activity, JSS supports the micro-grantees to develop a comprehensive body worn camera program with the use of federal funds. JSS ensures that all requirements and regulations are adhered to and that the program is comprehensive in nature.
A call with all FY 19-20 grantees, mentors and mentees. These calls are an opportunity for grantees to check-in with us at CHJ, meet other grantees, and learn about common questions we are asked by deflection programs. 120 individuals attended. After a brief introduction to CHJ and our TTA support, COSSAP TTA provider, Altarum, presented on incorporating peer support in deflection initiatives and Altarum's peer mentor site, Winthrop Police Department, presented on their deflection program and how they incorporate peer support in their efforts.

Attendees were then able to join mentors in virtual breakout rooms to ask them specific questions about their program and to learn more about what a mentoring opportunity with them could provide. The purpose of this program is to address delays in forensic lab testing with the ultimate goal of reducing court backlogs for drug-related offenses. The recipient will utilize funds to establish a pilot project to develop a national training model on current rapid identification technology and scientifically sound field collection and testing methods that can be used when drugs are discovered in the field.
TJI and WCPI provided faculty to present at ITWG on issues and questions relating to the impact of recent US Supreme Court cases on the provision of law enforcement and the need to foster collaborations.
Provision of faculty to present on IGC issues at the annual IACP conference.
Discussion of law enforcement training needs relevant to VAWA Reauthorization, domestic violence responses, assaults on officers and issues related to crimes perpetrated by non-Indian offenders.
Michigan State University, School of Criminal Justice (MSU) received the 2018 award for Category 1 Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) provider. MSU will work with CNA (Category 2) and NCVC (Category 3) throughout the grant period to provide assistance to the national PSN program, BJA, OLP, EOUSA and any other entity requesting assistance implementing PSN strategies. Efforts initiated or completed during fifth reporting period of the National PSN Category 1 award for MSU are included in this milestone.
